Set up Magvideo

Four steps, about ten minutes. You'll need Claude Desktop with a Claude subscription, on a Windows PC (10/11, 64-bit) or an Apple Silicon Mac. Claude is the chat you'll edit from.

  1. Get a subscription

Magvideo is £23.99/month with a 14-day money-back guarantee. Choose a plan. After checkout you'll get a sign-in link by email. Already subscribed? Carry on.

  2. Install the Magvideo extension

The extension is a small program that runs on your computer and gives Claude Desktop its Magvideo tools. Your footage is analyzed and edited locally. It never leaves your machine.

    Checking availability…

    Windows (x64)

    1. Open Claude Desktop. Go to Settings → Extensions → Advanced settings → Install Extension, and pick the downloaded file.
    2. A red “developer tools” warning is expected. Every extension installed this way shows it; carry on.
    3. Start a new conversation. Chats opened before the install can't see the new tools.

    macOS (Apple Silicon)

Intel Macs aren't supported yet. If an import or export fails instantly with a “developer cannot be verified” message, email [email protected] and we'll get you going.

  3. Sign in

In a new Claude Desktop chat, type “Sign in to Magvideo.” A browser tab opens with a code already filled in. Approve it while signed in to your Magvideo account. The first time, Claude will also ask you to accept the EULA in chat. That's it: the sign-in lasts about three months per device.

  4. Make your first edit

Point Claude at a folder of clips and talk to it like an editor:

    • “Create a video project on my desktop and import everything in D:\footage\japan.”
    • “What's actually in this footage? Show me the best moments.”
    • “Cut a 60-second edit to the beat of track.mp3 and export it.”

What to expect, honestly

  • First import takes minutes, not seconds. Magvideo analyses every clip locally: shots, speech, sharpness, music beats. Expect a few minutes per 10 minutes of video, and laptop fans are normal. Claude reports progress and you can keep chatting meanwhile.
  • Single commands are fast. “Cut the silences”, “show me that shot”, “tighten the intro”: seconds each.
  • Big briefs take 15–30 minutes. “Edit my whole trip into a video” makes Claude review footage, plan, and build the timeline in many steps. It runs on your Claude subscription, so a big brief uses a real chunk of your Claude plan's usage, like any long agentic task.
  • Your footage stays on your machine. Editing and analysis are local; only Claude's reasoning happens in the cloud.
  • Updated frequently. Magvideo is young and ships fast. Re-download anytime from this page or your account page. Reinstalling keeps you signed in.
